The most common question we get asked is, "How often do I need to restring my racquet?" At the very least we recommend twice a year with the change of the outdoor and indoor seasons. This is due to the vastly different conditions between indoor and outdoor play. Typically for the outdoor season players out dealing with hotter conditions and higher humidity compared to indoor conditions. This means that the ball will be much more responsive and your strings need to be adjusted for a ball flying faster. While indoors the ball tends to be less responsive and harder on the strings. We recommend for the a higher tension for the outdoor season to promote better control.
Also keep in mind that tennis strings are like a rubber band. The longer they are held at tension the less they spring back over time, meaning that you will inevitably drop tension over time. The amount of tension loss will greatly depend on string type and how you store your racquets. Poleyester strings like Luxilon Alu Power, Babolat RPM, and Head Lynx will maintain their tension for around 15-20 hours of playtime before suffering a massive drop off. Multifilaments and Natural Gut on the other hand lose a small amount of tension steadily over time. Even if your strings don't break you can be suffering large tension loss if your strings stay in for too long.
Also large temperature swings can effect your strings and racquet. So we highly recommend keeping your racquets stored in your house while not playing, this will not only reduce tension loss, but can help elongate the life of your graphite racquet. The graphite used for modern tennis racquets, like strings, does not respond well to large temperature swings. Such as the heat or cold of the car car trunk, over time the graphite will become brittle resulting in harsher play. While this will happen naturally over time by being held at tension, extreme temperature swings will greatly speed up this process.
